Venaya Yazzie presents: "The Fashion of Southwest People: A Journey to the Narrative of Adornment Culture"

Ever wonder how the southwest Native style of clothing and jewelry attire originated? Learn more at this presentation with Diné artist and cultural preservationist Venaya Yazzie on Friday, September 4 at 7pm. The program will take you on a journey of southwest Native people's adornment practices through history to the present. As Venaya says, “You'll leave shining like bright turquoise!”

About Venaya Yazzie 

Venaya Yazzie and motherBorn in Shiprock, New Mexico in 1972, Venaya was raised in the shadow of the Huerfano Peak, New Mexico, located on the eastern region of the Navajo Nation. She now lives in Farmington, New Mexico. Born into the Manyhogans Clan, from a long line of artists, her childhood memories are a constant inspiration for her. She is an alumnus of the Institute of American Indian Arts and received her BA at Fort Lewis College, in Durango, Colorado and a MA in elementary education with a minor in Indian Education from the University of New Mexico. Her connection to the land is spiritual, as she believes the land is a female entity which the Diné call “Nahasaan Shimà”, meaning “Our Mother”. She has exhibited with Indigenous Brilliance in Europe and in Arizona and Colorado.

This event is free and open to the public at the Bears Ears Education Center, 567 W Main St in Bluff, UT.
